    Many people hide their inability to start something ambitious such as a new business the farce of planning. Several years down the line after saying they would start something you ask them “How come you are yet to start ” they say they are still planning. They plan and plan but still dodge from actually getting started. I once met a young man in my second year in the university. He claimed to be a contractor and a printer. We got talking and I told him of my idea to get in touch with book importers who would supply me motivational, business books to open a modern bookstore in my campus. I saw the opportunity for that kind of business in the university campus and thought he could be a veritable partner as he said he had a business associate who imports books. He proceeded to take me through series of planning.

    As he said, we had to get every details right. We had to survey this, survey that and make sure the environment was right. Three months later we were still planning to set up a simple bookshop. Each time we met to talk business he would commence boring lectures on his business experience and his versatility and stress that it was important to make sure the planning was right.

    How many times have we thought of something ambitious and big to achieve but gave up because you were afraid of failing? Yet some months or years later you look back with regrets upon the chances you failed to take. When asked why you couldn’t use past opportunities you always give every excuse under the sun except the real one; You were simply afraid of failing so you didn’t act.

    Show me a successful person who has not failed at least once in any endeavour he embarked upon and I will tell you that such a person has not tasted true success. The day such person fails he may find it difficult to accept and may quit.

  • Most Business owners sadly do seem to forget what they ought to be doing most of the time;
    1) Refining the business system to continually become more efficient.
    2) Increasing sales of goods and services.
    3) Networking and letting as many people as possible, influential or not to know about the business.
    And that last responsibility of the entrepreneurs is what I am going to be writing on.

    Incidentally, business networking is not the space science or utterly technical stuff that most people think it is. Unlike what many business writers want us to believe. Business networking, infact many business issues require only commonsense to learn and apply. Business shouldn’t be so abstract and business advice also shouldn’t be such as to put the average businessman or woman into confusion.To effectively network requires only simplicity and total discard of ego.

    One of my mentors in the business world would always give his story as an advice on the best ways to network in business. Hear him;

    “I never thought of networking as something too complex to know and practice rather I saw it as what it really is; getting to know people and making them aware that your business exists. So when I was starting out as the managing director of my own small but modern furniture and upholstery manufacturing business I always made it a point of duty to greet anybody I met, introduce myself and handover my business card. I did that in buses, taxis, trains and later airplanes. I was persistent but I was humble and civil in my approach. I would introduce myself and exchange little pleasantries with anybody I happened to meet before handing my card. It’s pretty simple and unsophisticated.”

    This simple way of networking helped my mentor land his first big contract, to manufacture and supply over 3000 pieces of university classroom seats. Since then he has never looked back.

    Follow his advice, any other thing is mere confusion and over complication of what should be a simple art to help you increase the awareness about your business and subsequently increase the volume of business you do.

  • Once upon a time one could make others laugh their heads off without charging a fee. The comedian was taken for granted . He was usually seen as at best a jovial, carefree person. Nobody ever thought jokes were worth paying for. Today all that has changed.

    has always pledged to help its readers realis how to become selfemployed and rich.
    If you are a funny individual with the capacity to make people laugh and forget their sorrows its time you becane a nillionaire. Stop overlooking your talents . Comedy is now a big business.
    HOW DO COMEDIANS EARN THEIR MONEY
    A comedian first and foremost makes people relaxed and happy. Like musicians they are in the entertainment business.

    A comedian is usually invited to social functions such as weddings, parties, child naming ceremonies etc. Business functions like product launch are not left out. Comedians most of the times also act as Master Comperes ( MCees ) at events.

    HOW TO GET STARTED
    To make money from the comedy business you must take several steps
    acquire the abilty to see jokes around you- every event and happenings around you should be looked at at their sunny side. Create numerous jokes so you will not run out of them.
    start free!- Don’t be surprised. though you are going into comedy to make money start by offering your services to rich individuals in your area. If they don’t pay you, no problem. If you are good the first two shows you do are going to be the only ones you will do free.
    network, network- attend meetings where you can come in contact with social and entertainment icons. Give away your cards.
    see comedy as big business- Ask the big comedians who have offices and corporate images. They earn fabulous pay per show.
    They collect money to help plan events and event venues and charge fat fees for consultations. They earn huge from the advertising industry through the advert agencies that use them in Tv and radio adverts. Include all these and more in your line of functions and let the cards tell what you can do. Plan to go big time.
    seek new knowledge- don’t repeat jokes, always find new refreshing ones. Read extensively, develop in the field of public speaking.
    be creative- It was somebody that came up with the idea of organising an all comedy show and also of putting these shows in cds to sell and this brings in millions for the comedy industry each year.

    You don’t need formal training. Only exploit the funny side of you and allow your imagination to flourish. Very soon you can be earning quite some money while you still do other things.
