The entertainment industry in Nigeria has surely grown over the past few years. From the music to the movie and comedy industry much more noticeable improvement has been made though it is nowhere near the possibilities that can be attained.
In this report we look at the biggest and most attractive entertainment brands across all the sub-sectors in the entertainment industry. These are the companies and brands that have pulled the most audience, made the most hit movies/songs or whatever and generally done a lot to remain in the consciousness of its target audience. We have a list on top CEOs in the entertainment industry as well.
The Silverbird Group maintained its hold and influence on entertainment in Nigeria in the past year. A diversified group that owns key properties in various verticals of the entertainment industry; cinemas in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, television and radio stations, film distribution Silverbird has a hand in many parts of the media and entertainment pie.
It’s prestigious man of the year award has continued (though some would readily dismiss the objectivity of a seemingly political award which has seen some unmerited winners in the past few years). It also runs the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant which is like the Oscar of beauty pageants in Nigeria. It’s cinemas have a very strong influence on revenues and distribution for newly released films and is usually the first port of call for screening of new movies such as the wave making October 1 movies released later in 2014.

A brainchild of the famed producer Don Jazzy after the dissolution of the ‘Mo Hits’ record label Mavin has a team of young, upcoming artists (Dija and Bello Korede come to mind) blended with reasonably popular names (Dr Sid, Tiwa Savage). In 2014 Mavin ruled the airways with two blockbuster hits; ‘Dorobucci’ and ‘Adaobi.’
We rarely put together a list of entertainment platforms in Nigeria without making reference or mention of Notjustok. These days there are a plethora of music sites publishing download links to new music, music videos, news and reviews but Notjustok has managed to keep itself in the game year after year.
Notjustok almost made our list of top most visited Nigerian websites in the tail end of 2014; this shows the high user patronage it still retains till today among music fans.

After receiving millions of dollars in the past 2 years from investors IrokoTv has since upped the game, moving to sign up content distribution deals with Telcos in East Africa (Tigo of Rwanda being one of the first confirmed Telcos to do a deal with them).
IrokoTV has also moved on to adding content from other regions as it seeks to expand its library of movies, TV shows and entertainment content beyond just Nigerian content. IrokoTV remains the biggest VOD site in Nigeria in terms of size of library content (movies, shows etc)
Among the top ten most visited Nigerian sites in 2014 Bellanaija has remained in the front of lifestyle and entertainment blogging. Its influence spreads across wedding, events, celebrity news etc. Millions of readers are influenced by information on Bellanaija.
It’s surely the most respected lifestyle and entertainment blog in the country and is being run respectably by the founder Uche Pedro nee Eze.
