A Canadian lawmaker Pat Martin came up with a most hilarious excuse for leaving the House of Commons parliament session just before the commencement of a vote.
He hurried out of the session as members began to rise one by one to vote on a legislative matter before them. The reason Martin (who belongs at the opposition New Democrats) gave for leaving abruptly was at best hilarious. He blamed his departure on his too tight shorts which he claimed he bought at a cheap price.
“They had men’s underwear on for half price and I bought a bunch that was clearly too small for me. I find it difficult to sit for any length of time,” he told the chamber to guffaws and applause from fellow legislators”
Martin, one of the more colourful Canadian members of Parliament, did return in time to cast his vote.
